MANAKAU ELECTION

MR. DOIDGE’S “POLICY”

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 22.

“Mr. Semple is lord and master of all he surveys,” was a statement made by Mr. F. W. Doidge, National Party candidate for the Manukau by-election when addressing a very large meeting at Onehunga. “In his province he is a typical example of the attempt by the Government to establish complete mental servility throughout the country.” said Mr. Doidge. “You have heard a great deal about Mr. Semple,” said Mr. Doidge. “He lost no limelight when he came into the constituency and started an attack on me. It is true that he is a modern dictator and the New Zealand Mussolini. Those who oppose or criticise him have to apologise or eat the leek. You cannot imagine any private employer speaking the way he dares to speak. “You know that under the Transport Act nobody can say one word against him. He, has more power than the Tsar of all the Russias. He has taken to himself, powers which Mr. Herbert Morrison, one of the brains of the Socialist Party at Home, would never give. Mr. .Morrison laid down that the board in London would have to be free of political influence and political log rolling. Not so Mr. Semple. ’ ’
