The Board decided to recommend the Department to take the land required for a new school site at Granity, under the Public Works Act. The Board granted a petition from Pakoutaue Committee, to remove the school to a new site about two miles nearer Westport. It was pointed out that a.ll the pupils lived on the Westport side. The Secretary was instructed to prepare specifications aud call for tenders for the installation of a hot water service at the head teacher’s residence at Karamea. Arising out of a complaint by the Board’s Inspector. regarding the bad state of the paths leading to the Little Wanganui School, the Secretory stated that five months ago, material was supplied to the Committee to do the work, but apparently this was not done. The Secretary was instructed to inform' the Committee of the Board’s strong disappointment of their neglect, after representing the matter as urgent. The materials supplied, costing over £lO. were now probably wasted. The Board granted £5 for concreting paths at Summerlea School, provided the additional clearing of the playground was done, wh’ch work was considered suitable for local unemployed. The Granity Committee forwarded a copy of a letter sent to the Minister of Education. advocating the introduction of some system -which would obviate freouent changes of teachers in schools. The’ Board declined to accede to a request from the New Zealand Teachers’ institute, to deduct members’ subscriptions monthly.
