JOINERY WORKS To Cost £50,000 (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND. September 22. The joinery factor es in connection with the Government’s housing scheme will be erected at Kaiwarra (Wellington) and Penrose (Auckland). The •State Advances Corporation has accepted the tenders of the Fletcher Construct'on Coy., to erect the factories for £30,000. The total cost, with the plant, will be £50,000. Mr J. Fletcher, managing director of the Fletcher Construct on Company, said that work on the factories would commence almost immediately. The contract provided tor the completion of the build’ngs b the end of the year. Earn building would be 300 ft. by 80 ft. Air Fletcher saal the math nery to be installed would be the last word in joinery equipment and would probably be more modern than anything else In the Dominion. .Everything was aimed at turning out the greatest possible amount of high quality work at the lowest possible cost. Two large timber-drying kilns with a capacity for 40.000 ft. a week would be built “at each factory. This was to ensure an adequate and continuous supply of dried timber to supplement tho supplies coming from private kilns. Although plain and strictly utilitarian in appearance, the factories will embody the latest ideas in ventilation and' lighting and will have comfortable staff dressing rooms and similar accommodation. They will be con* structcd of corrugated, iron on timbet frames and 'will have roofs of rubbered material. Ra'lway sidings will be laid at each side of the two factories to facilitate the rapid despatch of the output.
