THE WEATHER

WELLINGTON, September 21. The weather report and forecast are as follows:—
General situation: A shallow depression is crossing the Dominion, today, and another one appears to h located over the north-west Tasman Sea. An anti-cyclone covers south eastern Australia), anj extends on to the southern Tasman Sea.
Forecast: Winds northerly to northeasterly mainly, but southerlies prevailing in the southern portion of tire South Island, and extending over most of the Dominion within the next 24 hours, their force being light to moderate, but freshening somewhat.
Seas (N.Z. waters): Rather rough to rough north of Farewell Spit and in the Cook Strait area; moderate to rather rough south of Farewell Spil; elsewhere, slight t,o moderate, but later rising north of East Cape.
Eastern Tasman Sea; Northerly winds at first in the northern and central portions; southerly in th southern; and southerlies or southeasterlies are later becoming general their force being moderate, with mod erate seas; but the wind and sea are rising shortly. Weather cloudy to overcast in most district;. with scattered showers oi misty rain at times, but Hater some heavy falls are probable in the northern half of the North Island. Temperatures mild at first in the North Island, but etool in the South, and becoming cooler generally during to morrow. Conditions are improvin'.’ shortly iu the western and southern districts.
