LAUNCH WRECKED

NEAR AKAROA ;HEADS

THREE MEN ESCAPE,

CHRISTCHURCH, September 21. The Akaroa launch, “Wainui,” was driven on rhe rocks at Island Bay, a few miles outside Akaroa Heads on Thursday night, and was completely wrecked. There were three occupants, Douglas Pool, Pat McGuire and George H'llyer. They escaped, but they had a trying experience. There wtts a south-west gale blowing at The time. After the launch struck, McGuire and Hillyer walked over th? range to Wainui, at daybreak, ami telephoned for a launch to go out and bring back Pool, who stayed behind to look, afrer the fishing tackle. Pooi was out in snow and ra'n until eleven o’clock next morning. The engine of the “Wainui” was salvaged.
