ROOSEVELT A RED !
HEARST PRESS STORY.
AVASHTINGTON, September 1?
The first so-called mud-slinging of the present Presidential campaign oeiui"ed with the publication in Hwirst newspapers of a charge of Communist su]>|>ort from' New Zealand. The ari’icle said: “The real candidate, the unofficial candidate of the Comintern is Air Roosevelt.”
A statement has been issued by the President’s secretary, declaring that the attempt of a certain notorious newspaper qwner to make it appear that the President passively accepts the support of alien organisations hostile to the American form of Government is conceived of malice and born of political spiTe. American people would not permit attention to be diverted from the real issue to fake issues which no patriotic, honourable, and decent, citizen would purposely inject into American affairs. Hearst's Argument A PRETTY SILLY ONE. (Received September 21, at 8.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 20. Air Hearst, the press magnate, again asserted to-day, in a thousand-word leading article, from Amsterdam, Holland, The charges he has niade againsi President-, Roosevelt. Anarchists, Tugwell Bolsheviks. or Riehberg revolutionists, which constitute The bulk of his following. I have simply said and’ shown that he does receive the support of these enemies of the American system of government. and that he has done his best to deserve the support ot all such disturbing an.l destructive elements.” OTHER CANDIDATES.
