Probably the most important wrestling bout ever staged in New Zealand, the professional contest between Earl McCready and “Jumping Joe’’ Savoldi two of the foremost contenders for the world’s title, ended in a draw, each securing one fall. It was not until the seventh round that the first Jail was registered. McCready, who had his opponent groggy at the end of the sixth round, rushed out of his corner in the seventh intent on following up his advantage. He roughed, Savoldi in headlocks and rolled him with headlock throws and then picked him up for a heavy dump. McCready had little difficulty in completing the fall with a body press. Savoldi. who was lying on his back in the middle of the ring, received attention from his seconds during the in. terval and he managed to reach the corner just before tne commencement of the final round. McCready came out confidently when the gong sounded, and the contestants’ fingers touched in a perfunctory handshake. Savoldi, who was apparently still dazed, suddenly flew through the air, felled his opponent with a tremendous drop-kick to the jaw. and secured an equalising fall with a body press. BLOMFIELD AND KRUSE. WELLINGTON, September 21. When, with a vigorous elbow jolt, he knock-.'d Bob Kruse right out of the ring for the fit* 1 ! count in the sixth round of a heavyweight wrest’ing contest to-night, Lofty Blomfield gained the decision by two falls to one. His earlier fall, in the second r.ound. was obtained with a dump and a body press, after dazing Kruse with repeated jolts, Kruse spent neaily amuch of his time expostulating with tlm referee as in contesting the issue, but he applied himself to the business in hand sufficiently to bring Blomfield’s shoulders to the mat as the. sequel to throwing him with a wrist lock in round five.
