WESTLAND ELECTORATE
Wet Time Train MINISTERIAL REPLY. Tn reply to representations made by him, Mr. J. O’Brien, M.P., has received the following reply from the Hon. Minister of Railways: .7. O ’Brien, Esq., M.P.,' Parliament Bldgs, Wellington. Dear Mr. O’Brien, —With further reference to your representations relative to the provision of a “wet time’’ train from Rewanui to Greymouth to enable men who finish work in the coal mines about 2.0 p.m. to return to their homes, I find, on inquiring into the matter, that the position is as follows:— The number of men concerned varies between two and thirty and averages sixteen. The men finish work at 2.0 p.m. and after bathing and changing, are usually ready to leave Rewanui about 2.30 p.m. As a general rule a train is run on which the men can return. to Greymouth almost immediately. It sometimes happens, however, that it is necessary for the train to convey goods to Greymouth earlier in the day, in which c:i“the next available train leaves Rowantii at 4.35 p.m. Although it is not always practicable to arrange the service so that the “wet time” men can travel to their home immediately they ceased work, every effort will be made to ensure that" the best possible arrangements are made and that, the inconvenience is reduced to a minimum., Yours sincerely. D. G. Sullivan.
