WAR FUNDS
OVER EXPENDED. WELLINGTON. August. 13. The 21st annual meeting of the National War Funds Council was held ves'terday, with Mr, Parry (Minister of Internal Affairs) as chairman. Air. Parry expressed the opinion that the time had arrived for a greater degree of co-operation between the. various societies, and suggested that a committee might be set Tip to investigate the position generally. After Mr Parry left, Mr C. M. Luke was elected to the eha.ir. Mr Parry’s suggestion' was fylly approved, and an executive was appointed to represent the Council. The statement of accounts showed an accumulated fund of £102,070, and trust fund,. £8986. The income, and expenditure acjCaunt showed' an excess of expenditure of £12,972, against £13,027 for the previous period making £46.000 excess of expenditure for the past four years. Investments showed no change, though the lower interest was reflected by reduced income. The subsidy to Flock Ho'use trainees is to be continued. A grant of £5OO was approved towards the establishmenl of the Cliristi-hureli Cottage Home scheme. 'l'he report covei-ing general relief showed that £15.189 was spent in the past year, and the unemployment expenditure was £l3 878. Grhnts for ini'niployment now total £85.471.
