RARE STAMPS
A FIND AT THE CAPE. (Received August 13 at 9.40 p.m.) CAPETOWN, August 13. Three important faded postage stamps have been discovered. They are ones which were used to prepay postage on newspapers in Grahamstown in the year 1832, eight, years before the British black stamps. They thus were the first adhesive stamps printed in the colony. The stamps are carmine in colour, the design being: A crown, from bottom of which spring two sprays, with a shamrock, thistle, and rose at the top; and “Cape of Good Hope” at the bottom. The denomination is one penny The discovery has aroused the 1 enthusiasm of philatelists.
