The Women’s Institute held a very largely-attended meeting on August 5. Airs Finlayson ably presiding. Lt was decided to send ’Denniston Ins.itute a letter of congratulation on its formation. Mrs J. Orman, owing to illness, was unable,t.o fulfil her undertaking in connection with '.lie motto. Some nearly-forgotten romances were recalled in the roll call, ‘‘When I first met my husband.” Some beautiful ex hibits were attracted by the competition in making cushions. Mrs T. B rchfield being awarded fifst, and Alesdames Jensen and Williams being equal in second place. Mesdames Wioods, Swanj Williams and Ninnes served supper, while Mesdamos Corbett and Giracc had charge ol games and dances.

Mr W. Watson presided on August 9 over a special meeting of the Imai Unemployed W’orkers’ Un on, when correspondence from Hon. P. Webo and Hon. 11. T. Armstrong was dea't with. Mr E. Morton, treasurer, submitted the balance sheet, which adopted. The resignation of Air I • Grace as Union Secietar'y was accepted with regret, a motion of appreciation of his services being passed. Air Morton was appointed in his stead, and Mr A. Stewart! appointed treasurer. It was decided to wind up the boot repairing .scheme, owing to inability to procure a repairer. It was decided to write regarding the families of certain unonqxoyed to the Alin'.ster of Health anil National U.W.M. Secretary. The prizes at the Caledonian Society’s whist tourney on August 10 were won by Mrs J. Lambert (Stockton) and Air F. Riddell. The local senior and junior Soccer teams played the Westport seniorsand juniors on the P r nmain ou Sunday. The Alillerton seniors won by 8 goals to h_ but the junijors were defeated by 4 goals to 2. Air C. Steele, of Stockton, had control of the games. The local teams travel to Wesiport next week-end. A large number of returned soldiers travelled to Westport on August 7, from Millerton and Stockton, to attend tin U.S.A, re-union. The focal Rugby juniors played Old Boys/, from Westport, on the Domain on August 8. The weather was fine and a great game was witnessed. The home side won by 9to 6. For Tbe Bsingers, Plummer kicked two penalty gobis and Strang scored a try. Ale Herron and Comerford scored a try each for the visitors. Air G. Geddes made an efficient referee. W. Strang. A. Reid, and G. Orman are the Ranger players selected to represent Buller in their game agains Nelson.
