Yesterday at Wellington, members of the Head Office, staff of the Public Works Department, in addition to Engineers and others from outside districts, were present in large numbers at a farewell function in honour of Air C. J. AlcKenzie, who recently resigned on account of ill-health from the position of Engineer-in-Chief, and Under-Secretary of Public W’orks. Department presentations were made to Air AlcKenzie bv the Alinister of Public Works (Hon. R. Semple), and tributes were also paid to him by Air J. ■Wood (who has succeeded Air Ale Kenzie as Eng’neer-'m-Chief and UnderSecretiary). raid Air F. S. An old resident of GreymouHi, Air .W'itliam Weaver passed away at his residence.. Alarsden Road, early yesterdav morning. Deceased, who was a native of Cumberland, England, where he was born 84 years ago, arrived in New Zealand in 1873, remaining in Nelson tor a short period. He spent the rest of his life on Ihe West Coast, being engaged for many years as a crane-ilriver by the Greymouth Harbour Board. His wife predeceased him, and he is survived by lour sons, John. George, Aubrey (Greymouth) and William (Otago), and six daughters, Alesdamcs \\ . D. ALoss, L. Brookes (Christchurch), L. Lutze (Brisbane), A. Phillips (Westport), AV. Bunker (Nelson), and T. A. \\. Tate (Greymouth). The interment will take place privately this afternoon, at Ktiroro Cemetery.
The death occurred suddenly yesterday, of Air Georg e LaUchlan, G 3. assistant general manager and distribution engineer of Wellington Municipal Electricity Department. Deceased would have retired from the City service next year, after nearly fifty years at work in the development and advancement of Wellingfo.n. Deceased was very prominent in rowing, having been manager of the New Zealand crew that went to Australia in 1935. For many years he was a member of the New Zealand Rowing Associatian Council, and for the past two years its chairman. Air Lauchlin was dii-ef of AVellington Coledonian Society, and a member of the. Executive of the Association of Scottish Societies, as well as taking a prominent par', in the guidance and activities of St. Andrew’s Burns Club. lie was also president of the Central Club and A’ice-Pres'dent of the Scottish Wanderers Football Club. —Press Assn.
