HOSPITAL LEVY

A SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTION. A reduction of £359 18s 6d on last year’s figures was indicated in the comparative statement submitted by the Grey Hospital Board to last evening’s m'ee.ing of the Greymputh Borough Council, on the levies to bo I made for; the year ending March 31. 1937. There was a reduction of a similar figure last year. Cobden is given separately, afthough now it is actually part ,of the Greymouth Borough. The total reduction in th,, maintenance levy i s £155 19s lid. and the capital levy £768 10 s, !L .otal of £924 9s lid. The total levy is £9358 Od lOd. as against £10;252 10s 9d last year. Cr. A. 11. Alt-Kane said that the reduction in the Grevniouth-Cobdeu levy totalled £359 18s (Id. Cr. F. Boost ridge said that with Cobden and Grevmouth now together it represented 59.17 pet; cent. o,f the total representation in th,. ilistric-, and for that representation the borough head five members. It was a ques lion whether .he Council should not consider asking for further representation on the basis, perhaps, that the Runanga and Brunner Boroughs be joined together, having one representative. If the percen age went up next year, he thought that the Grey Borough wris entitled to ask for another representative to mak e the proportionment more even. Cr. J. B. Kent said that there was an extra repres'illative on the Board now due to Runanga and Brunner haring been nlloted one e!l eh no. so long ago. and in view of the Minister of Interna!
