HOKITIKA NOTES

HOKITIKA, August 3

The Hokitika river is threatening erosion in portion of Koiterangi, in Ju- vicinity of Mi. Camelback, and the Pubic Works Eng.mer has instructions to assemble plant for protective measures. The County Council is to survey the riverbed, and the. measures will be taken as soon as authority is received.

It is expected that representatives of local bodies from other West Coast towns will attend the meeting called for 10 a.m., to-morrow here by the Mayor to consider the centennial celebrations proposals. Otago Expansion League has requested th P Public. Works Minister to adopt the recommendation adopted at the late conference of local bodies at Okuru, to the effect that the Otago road be continued from Makarora to the Haast simultaneously with the road from Weheka to Jackson’s Bay. Constable E. M. Best has been transferred from Wataroa to Kanieri, in succession to Constable I{. C. Drummond.
