,A Jersev message states that a search by aeroplanes discovered the wreckage of an oempltine on the Minquier Reef due south of Jersey. 'I here was no sign of the occupants. lhe Guernsey and Jersey lifeboats kept up a search all night for the missing airliner, and two Royal Air Foree machines joined in th 0 search. A squadron of Royal A r Force living boats, assisted by French aircraft, numerous civil aircraft, and shipping, engaged in n widespread search, but no trace- was found in Jersey. It m now felt that no further hop c can be entertained for the machine or the occupants. Jersey Airways oflic als can advance no theory as to the cause of th e accident. The plane carried e'g'B passengers, a pilot and a wireless operator, and disappeared off the Channel Islands. The machine left Guernsey in bad weather.
Captain P. S. Mumford, addressing the Liberal .Summer School at Oxford, said: Civil aviation in Europe is nothing but a farce. It is nothing but 'a reserve for bombing purposes. Ilf you are going to carve Europe into little national frontiers, and not allow aeroplanes to cross them, except at stated intervals, you will never get efficient service. All the Powers must be placed under a recognised League of Nations.
