The late Mrs Stratford-Henniker, who was about 66 years of age, received the war medal for notable work, first with her sister, Lady Millar, and later in charge of the women at the Arsenal with Aliss Barker during the Great War, For somes years she was Matron of Kirkpatrick Alasonic Institute, Nelson, resigning on account of ill-health. A notable Poverty Bay pioneer, Mrs Emily Mary Jamieson, a native of the Grey" Valley, died recently at the age of 73, at her home, Kahutia St., Gisborne. She was a daughter ol the late Samuel M. Mackley, the c' dest of a family of eleven, having been born at. Waipuna Station. She went to Gisborne 46 years ago and mat rind Mr David S- Jamieson, who 11 yeats ago predeceased her. She was, a member of the Gisborne Women s Club, and on the National Conned ot X\ omen, also a keen gardening cn iu* < s , She leaves a son, Mr A. S Jamieson and a daughter, Mrs E. Cade of Gmborne, two grand-children; also thiee brothers, Messrs Arthur, Ernest and Ralph Mackley, of Greymouth; and four sisters, Mesdames Joy <Auckland), Watt (Napier), Butter (Greymouth). and Marshall (Nelson), the late Mrs Jamieson retained vivid memories of the pioneering days a, Waipuna Station in the years ol the gold rushes, her father conducting a ■fore ; ,i which h,e exchanged goods for gold.
