SYDNEY DEATH SENTENCE Cabinet Discredits Woman Witness (Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received June 10 at 8.29 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 10. The 'Minister of Justice. Mr. Alartin, in the N.S.W. Assembly to-day. mentioned the case of Janies Alassey, who is to be hanged next. Alonday. Mr. Alartin said that he had received a statutory declaration from-Afrs. Elizabeth Bellingham, who declared that she was inside of Stead’s garage, and had witnessed the shooting, whieh had so upset her that she had since been unable to tell her story. Consequently she had remained in the background She described the shooting as accidental. Stead had made a grab at Massey. He seized Alassey’s wrist. The revolver went. off. Mr. Alartin said the detectives had investigated the woman’se story, whieh was so at variance with known and undoubted fads that the Government were unable to place the slightest credence in it. Consequently, the law would be allowed to take its course. He said there was abundant evidence that Alassey fired a shot at least two feet from Stead’s body. Therefore it was deliberate.
