EXPORTS INCREASE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Alay 9. An abnormally heavy monthly value of export trade is indicated by statistics of exports in Alarch. The total declared value of commodity exports in that month was, according to the Abstract of Statictics £7,447,916, the highest total in any month since Alarch, 1929, and 21.5 per eent. higher than in Alarch, 1935. Exports of wool during March. 1936, totalled 186,332 bales, of a total declared value of £2.761,125, as compared with 121,433 bales valued at £1,264 990 in that month last year —increases of 118.3 per cent, ii> value and 53.4 per cent, in volume. The abnormally high value of total exports can therefore be attributed 1" the phenomenal increase in wool exports. The export of frozen pork also sl:<.'.vs a notable increase as compared with the previous Alarch; in fact, the rapid development in the trade has placed this item among the major meat exports. The declared value of exports of lamb in Alarch was £1,278.086 and of mutton £238,296. Exports of pork were valued at £197.997 and oi chilled and frozen beef at £llB 548. The excess of exports for the month was as high as £4,410,336.
