ON YOUTHS AT SYDNEY One Reprieved (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received May 5,- 9.50 p.m.J SNYDEY, May 5. The New South Wales Minister ot Justice, Mr Martin, announced in the Assembly to-dby that the Cabinet had recommended the 'Executive Coutu.* to commute the death sentence 1,1 corded” on Jones to a sentence ol imprisonment' for th u term of his n.ifulfil life. Mr Martin said that thg Government had given the fullest consideration to fresh evidence brought forward on behalf of Jones. It had also obtained an opinion from three King □ Counsellors ms to whether .the recording of his death sentence was tantamount to a reprieve. One such opinion was that the Executive Cotind could legally and validly proceed either <t° carry out the death seiiteiic‘> or to commute it.
