The Minister of Alarine (the lion. Peter Eraser) has refused to agree to the request of lhe North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society to extend the salmon fishing season until Alay 17. 'PALAIERSTON NORTH, Alay 1.
Through coming into collision with a motor car in Church Street, this eening, a pedestrian, J-’rederiek William Craig was fatally injured. It was raining hard at the time, and apparently Craig left the footpath to cross the road unaware of the approach of a ear. ( Both his legs were broken and he received head injuries. He was taken to the hospital, and succumbed at 11.45 p.m. CHRISTCHURCH, Alay 1.
While the South express was making a brief stop at Christchurch last evening before completing its journey to port, luggage thieves swooped down on the first-class carriages and relieved two women of a large quantity of valuable personal possessions. AJiss Alildred AleKeown was travelling from Timani to spend a holiday at °the Chateau Tongariro. She got off the train to have a cup of tea at the refreshment room and when she returned to her carriage a large portmanteau, the contents of which she values at over £5O, had disappeared. Her hat box had not been taken. The most valuable article stolen was a stone marten fur which had been bought in England during a recent trip abroad. New evening gowns,a number of other garments, eight pairs of stockings, and six pairs of shoes were also acquired by the thief. The other theft occurred in another carriage, a young married ttoinan tra veiling with her husband being robbed of all the personal clothing she possessed except what she was wearing.
