OIL DIVINING

A new Russian method of underwater oil prospecting m'ay double avail able oil reserves, and has already been successfully used in the discovery of rich deposits in Bibi-Eibas Bay. Azerbaijan. Special ships are fitted for lowering an electric apparatus into the water by cables througn which a current passes. This device, by measuring the varying resistances of submerged rock formations, gives a rough indication of their composition from which their oil-bearing quantities can he determined. It is hoped that this method will bring to light the vast oil deposits known to exist in the lake and sea bottoms of Azerbaijan, Daghestan, and Baikal.
