GOLF

GREY CLUB’S CLOSING DAY. The. Greymouth Golf Club on Saturday afternoon officially concluded i most successful season when the closing day was held at the Kaiata links, followed by a dance in the United Pavilion. There was a good attendance despite the threatening w elather, and it he greens were in good order. Th e various epmpertitions produced exceedingly keen competition, partiuiilarly the putting. The season was declared closed by the president (Mr W. Meld rum) who said: the club had had a [most successful season, with an outstanding increase in members. The weather had been exceptionally good, and enjoyable games had resulted on all sides, this being due in the most material- part, to the fine work of their caretaker, Mr J. Cairney.

Afternoon tea was served by the lady members of the club. The various competitions resulted as follows:

Men: Long driving (senior)—M. Smith; intermediate. —Dr. 11. S. Ray; junior —R. S. Morgan. Approaching —P. Curran. Putting—lL Morgan.

Ladies: f • Drivilng (.senior 1 ) —Miss N. Tennent; junior—Miss C. Tennent. Approaching—Miss C. Tennent. Putting—Mrs McCarthy. Trophies for the above competitions were presented to the winners by the president, who also presented trophies wjoii during the- season as follows: —

Men: Senior championship cup —P. Warnes; runner-up T. W. Daly. Intermediate championship—L. Sullivan; runner-up M. McKechnie. Junior championship—-G. S. Hay; runner-up, R. G. Morgan. Orkney 'Cup—J. J. Agar. Four Horseman Cup—A. rf. Ihle. The Thorpy Cup fo-r captain versus vice-captain’s match was presented to H. C., Garde, vice-captain.

Ladies: Senior championship—Miss N. Ten

nent. Juni'orl championship'—Mrs Wilkinson. Omoto Cup —-Miss N. Tennent. Miss Kelly’s Silver Cup—Mrs Dhyberg. Tennent trophy for ladies’ foursome—Mrs Hannan and Miss J. Hambleton.
