The heaviest hailstorm for years was experienced at Wanganui yesterday' afternoon, the fall in the up-river districts being particularly heavy accompanied by 7 thunder and lightning. Coates that representatives of the State services had asked that the 74 per cent, increase provided in the Budget should be reconsidered, and 5 per cent, covering the full year given in preference. The representations, it is stated, were for 7| per cent, increase to be retrospective to April 1. The deputation came away with a definite understanding that the matter was going to be reconsidered with a view to providing a retrospective payment of 5 per cent, of the proposed 74 per cent, increase, the balance to be effective from October 1.
