On Saturday last as a curtain raiser to the wonderful Coast v. Canterbury clash, Inangahua played their first representative game *in Canterbury against Canterbury second grade, and a very good last game resulted. Up to the last 15 minutes the game was it; doubt, the score then being Canterterbury 6 and Inangahua 3. Then the

train journey showed effect, many having travelled tor 11 to 12 hours prior to the game without sleep. Canterbury backs and forwards’ handling and running fast, notched two good tries which were converted, making the final seore 16 to 3. Deliaca scored for Inangahua from a good fast forward rush. Inangahua’s kicking was off, four kieks being missed. The serums broke about even, with line-outs going to Canterbury. J. Smith had a bad head bump, which dazed him for some time. Bateman broke through nicely on occasions, but often gave the ball to Smith a trifle late, leaving Smith tackled as he received the half Sara played safely. O ’Malley defended well. Hunt also went well and tackled hard. Bolitho was everywnere. Deliaca was in most of the work. Crossman led the forwards, but could have been more in the tight. Broadhurst played a hard and fast game, while Archer toiled well. Duggan played well, but hooted back a bit too much O’Regan bustled well. If he tackled with both hands he would be a tough man. Glennie was going all the wav, while Robertson broke through well at limes, but could not get to it. Taken as a whole the team did very well, they felt the trip, hard ground'and the’ hard low tackling of the Red and Blues.

The team were met by one substanual member of the Coast Union and Mr. Todd, of Canterbury, and taken to < Oker’s Hotel, where a bath, breakfast and a round of good cheer awaited H em. In the evening the Canterbury T mon entertained both teams, Canterbury and Inangahua, at a banquet at Coker s Hotel, and after the loyal toast, those of the teams’ selectors, I mons were drunk. The participants sang heartily and tunefully “Old -ang Syne” The speake'rs were Mesrs Philips Davis. “Beau” Cottenll (Canterbury Union), Broeker (Inangahua), the two captains, Mr. Cooper (Canterbury) and Mr. Crossman Inangahua) All the speakerg rpfer led to the friendly spirit between the provinces, the Canterbury speakers being being pleased at having a visit trom the sub-Union. Inangahua speakers referred to the wonderful time given the team and the satisfactory arrangements made for them The de-

sue was expressed for the Canterbury team to visit Inangahua bv both parties and if this should eventuate, as it probably will, great football will be seen.
