MR. POLSON, M.P.
AGAINST GUARANTEED PRICES. fPnr Pres* Association). NEW PLYMOUTH, September 10. Mr Polson. M.P., making reference at Stratford to the guaran/teed prices proposals of the Labour Party, said that there were two plans put forward by th© Labour Party—Mr F. Langstone’s plan for exchange inflation and Mr Savage’s plan, which Mr Savage had now repudiated. Mr Polson made reference to a statement made by Mr Savage at Stratford, that no conversation between him and Mr Polson in reference to raising money for guaranteed prices by taxation had ever occurred, and that Mr Polson had no right to repeat; a private conversation in any case. Mr Polson declared their conversation was not private. He had asked Mr Savage in his seat in the House what was the real p’an, and Mr Savage had told him frankly that the only thing to do was to raise money by taxation from those wh,o could afford it. It was a fairly lengthy conversation, which Mr Savage now repudiated. If it were a matter of the speaker’s (word or MiSavage’s, ho would leave if. there, but unfortunately for Mr Savage, there was ample evidence that, if he did not say this to him (Mr Polson), he had said it tp a number of others, ft was a curious thing that Mr Jones nt Dunedin, Mr McCombs at Lyttelton, and Mr Langstone in his famous pamphlet, had (ill referred to taxation as a means of raising money, and Mr Savage in his speech to th c . last Labour conference also did so.
