BRITISH FILM INSTITUTE
The British Film Institute, which started work two years ago is now a ,vell-established organisation and branches are springing up all over Eng. and. The aim of the Institute is to encourage the use and development of the cinematograph as a means of entertainment and instruction. Towards this end they act as a clearing house for information on all film matters, especially culture and educational films. They advise on the question of film apparatus and hope to establish a repository of films of permanent va.'ue They advise Government department!# and certify films as educational, cul lure, or scientific.. What the Drama League, has done in Britain for the thea-l're the Institute may do for the film industry. The Institute now publishes a quarterly paper called “Sight and Sound,” and a recent copy to hand, refers to “Mr Cinders” as being the greatest, triumph as yet scored by British films. Lt' will be shown tomorrow night, at the opening of the new Victoria Theatre. It is the essence of musical comedy and knocks a.’l production of a> similar kind into a cock ed bat.
