HUMOROUS ENGLISH TURF PROBLEM. (Received August 13, at 7.20 p.m.) LONDON, August 13. A rattle, the use of which formerly urged ‘he racehorse BaLlyseanlon to victory, has re-appeared., with portentious consequences, saysf the “Daily Mail.” Trainer Hedges, finding that a horse named “Speed On’’ was difficult to persuade to give of his best, when racing, bethought' himself of Bal’yscanlon’s rattle, which haa been kept as a memento, and. as the result of its use, Speed On won a race at Folkestone in a canter, l Afiter the race, th e stewards sum

moned Hedges, and they questioned the legality of the rattle. Hedged pointed out that a jockey is permitted to carry a whip or a substitute. He said that the rattle was more humane than the whip. Hickey, Speed On’s jockey, was then called in. He gave a demonstration with the rattle. The stewards smiled, but they decided to submit the problem and the rat'tle to the Jockey Club stewards.. Meanwhi’e Hedges has sent a letter to the Jockey Club, pleading for the return of the rattle, because of its sentimental value. BRISBANE DISQUALIFICATION. (Received August 13. 9.20 p.m.) BRISBANE. August. 13. The racehorse owner-trainer, Hi'irry Dukes, and the jockey, Ben Tibb. were bo'fh disqualified for a year, following an inquiry into th e running of Pamelus in the Doomben Stakes last Saturday
