WAGES DISPUTES. CTIAIN STORES QUESTION. (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 12. Whether the grocery shop managers in Canterbury are bound by the award covering other employees in the trade, was the principal topic in the hearing of a dispute in the Arbitration Court to-day. Th e decision was reserved. Applicant was the Canterbury Master Grocers > Industrial Union of Employers. Its c’aims were contested by the Canterbury Grocers’ Assistants’ Industrial Union of Workers. The Employers’ Union claimed there was a valid separate agreement with branch managers. This contention was opposed by the Workers’ Union. The recently formed Canterbury Chain Stores Grocery Managers’ Union made a submission that managers were “occupiers” of shops, and therefore should not be included in 1110 award covering assistants.. EMPLOYERS DIVIDED. WELLINGTON, August 12. The hearing of tlie dispute between the Wellington district grocers’ employers and workers, was halted at the Arbitration Court to-day, by n claim made on behalf of the Chain Store employees, that the applicant em plovers had not filed a dispute according to all the provisions of the law. Certain documents were missing, which counsel for the master grocerclaimed had actually been filed. The Court will give a decision on Wednesday.
