PARLIAMENT
GOVERNMENT PLANS Electoral Laws (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 13. It is understood that a proposal to amend the electoral laws to provide for legislation on the voting system has received consideration from Cabinet, but any decision is being deferred till the return of Mr. Forbes and Mr. Coates. Similarly the question of the representation of the South Island in the House, has also been deferred, as the census will uot be taken until next year. The coming election will probably be fought on the existing electoral boundaries, but it appears eer.tain that after the completion of the census, and the meeting of the Boundaries Commission, the South Island will lose two seats in favour of the North. It is understood that the Government has considered this question and thero may be an amendment of the law to provide for a different system of readjustment. ' Sir A. Ransom stated to-day that plans for the session opening on August 29 were well forward. There would be a number of bills with the object of amending the existing legislation. He did not anticipate that any difficulty would be experienced in securing their passage through the House. . In the event of the Address-tn-Re-ply debate collapsing unexpectedly, the Government would be prepared to go right ahead with its legislative programme.
