The Imperial Economic Committee’s report dealing Avith supp ies of butter' to the British market in 1934 draws special attention to the fact that New, Zealand, for the first time, supplanted Denmark as the principal supplier. Imports from New Zealand last year Avere 2.677, OOOcwt., compared with Denmark’s 2,486,000 cwt. Austra lia Avas third Avith 2.104,000 cwt. 'Empire supplies amounted to 54 per cent, of the total imports, the largest proportion ever recorded. The consumption of butter per head of population was 25.21 b. an increase of 6.31 b compared with 1930. The consumption of margarine was 7.9 b per head, compared with 11.81 b per head last yetir. WASHINGTON, August 9. Th e Senate by 53 to 24 votes passed the measure prohibiting suit< against the Government, based on dollar devaluation similar to but more stYin gent, than the measure adopted by the House. Thp Senate versiou contains a clause permitting six months* grace within which to file suits after the Art becomes law. The House must now act on th: • clause before the measure is sent to the President for signature.
