THE WEATHER
(Per Press Association.; WELLINGTON, August 9. The weather report and forecast are as follows:— General situation; An anti-cyrlune envelopes the Dominion, its centre lying to the west of the Auckland peninsula. A depression, located over southeastern Australia, appears to have been losing intensity, while pressure is relatively low also across the South Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds southerly at first in the far north; otherwise westerly to north-westerly winds prevailing. light to moderate mainly, but strong in Foveaux Strait, and freshening also about Cook Strait. Seas in New Zealand waters rather rough south of Westport and in Foveaux Strait; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: North-westerly winds, light to moderate in the northern portion, with smooth to moderate seas; fresh to strong winds in the southern portion, with rather rough seas. Weather still five in most districts, but cloudy in the western areas from Taranaki southwards, with some scattered rains in Westland and the far south. Mild temperatures.
