COLD SNAP
IN EASTERN AUSTRALIA Storms Trap Mountaineers - (Received August 4, at 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY,-August 4. The Southern and Eastern States of Australia are in th e grip of the severest cola spell they have had for yea rs. The adverse conditions are intend tied by violent* gales, which are disorganising the shipping, and are cans ing extensive/damage along , the coast as well as inland. Report’s are arriving of and contiifuous /snowfalls in the Victorian Alps, fed also on Mount Kosciusko. There have been New South Wales tourist and skiing parties marooned, they often being in peril, and baling to be rescued by search parties, who are using. snow p'oughs. One large party, bound for Mount Kosciusko, were trapped in the snow that was three feet deep. They suf fereld intense privation until sleds rescued them.
