HERDMAN’S POLICY

WHAT IS IT ? Ransom’s Pointed Query (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, August 2. Interviewed to-day, the ActingPremier said he was disinclined to discuss in general terms the statement made by Sir A. L. Herdman, but he said an opportunity would be taken to reply when Sir Alexander announced the details of his policy. There was one point." however, he desired to refer to. That was the statement by Sir A. L. Herdman regarding the sacrifices made by people during the depression. Sir A. Ransom said it would be interesting to know what sacrifices Sir A. L. Herdman had made in the country’s interest. AUCKLAND, August 2. In his reply to the request to stand for Parnell. Sir A. L. D. Herdman, said:: “You will ask me, but what about the political party controlled by Mr. Forbes and Mr. Coates? To that question my answer is that I shall do I my utmost to remove* these gentlemen from office as speedily as possible. My | reasons for opposing the administra i tion of Mr. Forbes, I shall make known in detail on other occasions. I know or .'0 Government which in the history I of this Dominion has done more to shatter public confidence, which lias done more to upset tried and long established commercial practice and which has done more to arouse the feelings of unrest, bitterness and injustice than the Government of which these gentlemen are leaders. I am perfectly free. If a band of men shall arise holding views on public questions aim ilar to those held by me, we can act in concert. If no such band arises, I shall carry on the fight alone. I live in hopes that as a result of the coining election, clouds which hang over New Zealand at present will lift and that the weight which is crushing and dis heartening this little country will be removed. lam hoping that a way will be opened up for liberal investment of capital, for development of our natural industries, for activity in trade and for a greater demand for labour. If this can be acheived happiness will soon follow.
