(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON. August 1. The Rugby Pub-Union on Tuesday decided to close the Siallard senior cup competition, Waratahs being the winners. A knock-out competition for the McM hi n Cup is being started here on Sunday. Waratah p’aying Black’s Point at 1.30 (Mr Yellowlees referee), and Tkamatua playing Stars at 3 p.m. (Mr Gallagher referee). The funeral of the late Mr G. B. Wells took place thig afternoon, when <n verv large assembly attended to pay their hast respects. The services at the graveside at St. Stephen’s Church and at the graveside, in the Suburban Cemetery were rend by the Rev. W. Fairlie Evans of Knox Church. A large number of those who had been workmate? of deceased were present. At the Reef ton Jockey Club’s annual meeting, fifteen members attended. The Clia ; rman (Mr E. W. Spencer) referred tn the death of Mr G. R. Wells, a lifp member and a letter of sympathv was decided to be sent to his relatives. The Chairman said it was to be regretted that the Club showed a loss on the year of £293 10? 2d. while in addition unnaid aecouflfs totalled £lB7 2s Bd. There was a considerable amount of unpaid nomination and acceptance money, though none wan owing by Reeftonites. The balancesheer did not show the amounts owing. Members expressed the opinion that the club need not fear its financial position. Officers were elected as follows? President. Mr E. W. Spencer; VicePresident Mr .T. B. Auld; Committee, Messrs A. J. Chettle. C. H. Cleaver, H. T. Crumpton A. G. Cal’aghan. J. B. Discac’ati, F. Wright. G. J. Dick. H. W. Gebbie V. Mori D. Panckhkurst, Jas’. Patterson. F. Seawrighr'; Auditors, Messrs C. Nevin and C. Willis. Mr J. Noble suggested more hack race? in th,» programme. The Chairman said several horses were outside the hack clas? and vet wore unable to win races and these would be unable to compete. Mr Winchester endorsed Mr Noble’s suggestion instancing horses nr.ab'e to compete at Reefton. There should be more hack race? for less than a mile. The Sec’•eta rv said a race had been suggested for horses owned and tra’ned on the West Coast. A morion of thanks to the Trotting Club f or ; s donation was passed on the resrs Cleaver and Discaciati. .Mr J. F. Auld was re-appointed Treasurer.
