(Per A-ncintion t WELLINGTON. July 31. The weather report and forecast are as follows:—■ General situation: The northern depression is moving slowly eastwards, but another one is advancing over the northern Tasman Sea. A slight anticyclone has been crossing the South Island to-day. Forecast: Winds southeasterly north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, hacking to north-easterly in the far north, and still strong in exposed positions, hut otherwise moderate; elsewhere light to moderate, and variable, but tending easterly. Seas in New Zealand waters rough north of Cape Campbell and the Taranaki Bight; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: East to north-east winds, becoming strong in the northern portion, with rising seas; moderate in the southern portion, with moderate seas. Weather unsettled in the far north, with rain developing, and changeable elsewhere over the North Island, with scattered showers, more especially in the east coast areas; mainly fair in the South Island, but a few coastal showers north of Banks Peninsula. Cold temperatures with some severe frosts in the south.
