Ex-Professor’s Case SECURITY FOR PAYMENT. (Per Press Association;. WELLINGTON, July 81. Legal argument on the financial position of David James Richards, former University Professor, occupieu the attention of Mr Justice Smith at the Supreme Court, when his wife, Hinemoa Corel'i Charlotte Richards, appealed against an order by a Magistrate whereby he reduced, from £6,000 to £3,000, the amount of a cnarging order over Richards’ mortgages, giving security for the payment of maintenance for his wife and child. Mr Leckie. who appeared for Richards, said that his client was now engaged in farming a very fine property in the Wairarapa. He had an excellent manager on the place, but he needed money to stock it. Mr Hardie Boys, for the wife, sard that, to his knowledge, only one maintenance payment had been made in three years other than by legal proceedings. Once, during the hearing, Richards interjected with an explanation, and he was toM by His Honor that he would have to leave the Court if he interjected. as he was represented hr counsel. His Honor said that lie would give a written decision.
