M., 'to-day with the theft of <€looo from Smith and Smith between July 1, 1934, and Jutw 30, 1935 Accused was remanded by consent till August 14 on bail of €2OO. accused to report daily to the po ice. A verdict of guilty was returned, t’o day, in tin Supreme Court against Albert William Gauntlctt and Ralph Cresby (alias Trevor Foote), on a charge of breaking and entering the shop of Hay’s Ltd, and. committing the theft of £479.

The trial was the sequel to the safe blowing at Hay’s Ltd, on June 15, and the subsequent' sensationa’ dash by Detectives Halcrow and Herron to Picton, where the accused men were arrested on the morning after the burglary. They then had over £370 in their possession. Both were remanded tor sentence. alleged theft. £5OO WORTH OF JEWELLERY WELLINGTON, July 31. Alfred J ffery, alias' Wilcox, was charged with breaking and entering the Anchor Exchange and Loan Company’s shop on May 12. stealing jewellery valued at £5OO, and £B4 in money, and was further remanded till August 7 2 as also was N. G. Kun Tong fruiterer, charged with receiving from Jeffery jewel ery valued at' £3OO. In regard to Tong the police and he had been of great assistance, and he would be more useful on ba-'l- Thia wagranted in £lOO, Tong to report to the police twice daily. THREE MEN CHARGED.
