MAN GASSED

WIFE BATTERED Timaru Sensation (Per Press Association). TIMARU, July 30. When a lad of twelve years returned home, during the school lunch hour today, he found his father, William Bell, aged 50, lying unconscious on the scul cry floor, and the room filled with gas. The police were summoned and Bell was still unconscious when they arrived.

Neighbours meantime, found the gas escaping, disconnected the ring and turned the supply off. Later the police found Mrs. Bell, aged 48 years, lying on her bed with her head in a pool of blood. Both were taken to the hospital, by which time Bell had partly recovered but his wife remains in a serious condition. Be l was not fit to make any statement to-night, and in the meantime, accurate details are lacking.
