Ross Flat is once more lb be prospected, and many believe that if the lower levels can be worked good results will be obtained. Mr John Murdoch, who has jufcrt. returned from the North Island, is caliug the present leasees of the area together to discuss a pioposition whereby a boring plant could be obtained to test the levels below the worked ground which watf very rich. The Gael and Te Aroha, with cargoes of timber, sailed this morning for Wellington shortly aft'er ten o 'c. ock. Last month no less than a million feet of sawn timber was railed through Hokitika from one of the South Westland mills. The training wall has been completed for the improvement of Okarito harbour, and the excavation of a new channel is nearing completion. Next month the river is expected to be blocked, and when water is raised in the lagoon to sufficient height, t’he new channel wild be opened with a straight run. A timber wharf for loading purposes is to be erected, and pile driving will soon be in operation.

The wedding took place on Saturday evening at t'he Lower Kokatahi Ang ican Church of Amelia Maud, daughter of Mr and Mrs E. T. Sheriff, of Kokatahi, to Mr Stuart Henry Wilson, of Christchurch. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Hamilton, of Ku mara. Th e bride was escorted by her step-father, and wore a Princess, Marina gown of blue sulk velvet* finished, with a silver girdle, and a toque oi matching velvet, and carried a shower bouquet of hot-house flowers. Miss Jessie Sheriff, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid and wore a pink silk vehn . frock, with cowl neck'ine and finished with a silver girdle, and a petalled cap of pink and silver and a matching bouquet* completed a pretty toilet. Mr N Brown was best man. Mr? Macfarlane, sister of the bride, was, organist. After the ceremony, relatives and friends were entertained at dinner at the Kokatahi Hotel by Mrs Sheriff who was wearing a b ack erepe satin irock with shoulder spray of flowers ami haf to tone. Travelling the bride wore a blue wool crepe frock and fait hat. to lone and fur-trimmed coat of brown diagonal cloth. Mr and Mrs Wilson will reside at Maruia. 'fhe regular motor service with South Wetland is being increased from three to four services weekly, indicating an increase of population. Dr. E. Teichelmann and Mr S. A. Darby this evening visited Greymouth io attend the meeting of ti.e West Coast Tourist Devalopment Committee. At a meeting of 'the West’and Pro giess -.eague last evening D.\ Tiechelmaun presided. Advice was received from t'he Public Works, Distritc Engineer, that he is recommending a signal for the Hokitika bridge, so that moti rists at the south end would have :>n indication of the approach of a train. Tim Weat'laud County C’oune l s sug gesting to the Government the eon nitration of the suitability of the WestZand section for the of the new

tail motor cars. A suggestion at the Progress League meeting last evening was that increased ‘traffic to South Westland ami the need for a bettei connection with the East Coast, warranted an extra express train on Mondays. A»t present only a mixed train is run from Christchurch, affording no connection from this tourist terminus. With regular motor services on Sundays from South Westland, the Monday express appears to be a neeessa;; connect ion. It seems probable if ‘the New Zealand Railways will not eater for the passenger traffic, that applica-. tion will be made for a motor traffic license to do so, so as to supply a more attractive service between Hokitika and Greymouth for touring passengers. It is stated that mining interests have in contemplation the exploitation of the Te Aroha Falls for hydro generation of electricity. Lately a Pubuc Works Department official inspected the T c Aroha River with an eye to its possibilities, and also the Kakapotaho River in South Westland. The Te Aioha proposition is considered a good one, and the other is, stated to Lave a natural site for a dam, and a low range could from the Wait aha Settlement side, be pierced with the necessary tunnel to deliver the water ;.t the power station site. Possibly power schemes from Whiteombe River, B.g Wanganui River and Wataroa river are also known. The last-mentioned td is one of fhe most capacious, on the Coast, being able to develop 80,000 ll.p. At the Rugby Sub-Union’s meeting last evening, it was arranged that matches between Hokitika D.U.S., and Greymouth Technica firs-t* and second fifteens will be played at Cass Square on Saturday afternoon. Competition fixtures were postponed. Kiwi Cflub wer e granted permission to play Humphrey’s during the week-end. Mr Wells said he had the assurance that’ the Arahura ground would be given attention. West Coast ißugby Union advised that, befor e sub-Union status is granted South Westland, t’he question of boundaries, between Westland and South Westland must be decided and submitted to the Coast Union. They suggested a conference be held be- . w en Westland and South Westland, to go into this matter, the results to b e communicated to Greymouth.
