Team Selections Criticised (To the Editor.) bi 17 —1 have read with interest the various letters appearing in your columns regarding the local liugby Unions and i my opinion such letters are undoubtedly warranted. The selection of so many United players in the rep. teams has certainly been a puzzle to outsiders. Take, for example tiie case of Kcar, selected in the Coast team. This player has done nothing outstanding to warrant his inclusion; yet. when the first team was sent to Bu.ler this player was chosen after playing in only one match. However, tie failed to make the grade, but he appeared again next time right in the first fifteen. There are some dozen forwards with stronger claims. Il struck me as unusual that Hammond did not gain a place in Saturday's team, as it appears that any player coming to the Coast with a tootnail irputaiion such as Hammond, would go into our rep. team immediately. This was the case with Vincent. Hen dry, Hooper and others. However, here is another instance. Hammond belongs to the wrong dub. Now Mr. Editor, there is no doubt whatever that there is too much blue and white in local rugby but as the Rugby Union is content to e ect such selectors, the only remedy 'is in the-hands of the players themselves.—l am, etc., SIDELINER. (To the Editor.) Sir, — Kindly allow me space to comment. ou the third grade Rugby team, in a matter like this, 1 think that a Possible v. Probable match should take place. Here is a team I would suggest and think that it should be tried and would wipe the other team off the map: Full-back. Roselle; three-quarters. Wilson. Vaughan (centre), Coakley; Five-eighths Watson, McHugh; half, Webster; forwards, Moar Eatwell, Dando, Bennett, Roberts, Herring, Me : Laughfan (Cobden), McNeil. This team does not have one player in the rep. team. —I am, etc.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Would you kindly allow me space in your valuable paper to comment on our local third grade representative team to play Reefton in a few weeks time. Jamieson certainly earned his place as full back and Kiely as half back; but for the rest of the team, it is not a good selection, and the emergencies likewise. How young F. Goodall was left out of the team is absolutely a mystery to me. How about Anderson and that dashing Blaketown forward. Bennett. Their omission shows the carelessness of one selector in particular.—T am, etc. DISGUSTED. BRIDGES OR BOMBERS? (To the Editor.) Sir —I see the Member for Westland

interviewed the Minister in Wellington re more bridges and roads for the settlers in South Westland, to get access to their properties. The Member was told there was no money available for them, and yet we find them landing six bombers, probaldy costing seven or eight thousand pounds each. Tn the name of common sense, where is the use of bombers now in New Zealand, with all our unemployed? Little New Zealand it seems, does not want to be behind the big Powers in rattling the

sabre! U.S.A, and others should protest against the Government spending money for these engines of war.-—I am, etc., TIM JACKSON.
