Charles was in charge nt the launch, and* John was in t'he dinghj Some distance away. Charles heard an explosion, and saw his ..brother collapse in the dinghy. When he goth the launch alongside the dinghy, he found his brother had evidently been handling an explosive, u hich had gone off prematurely, and seriously injured him in the face nnd eyes, and b own one hand off at the wrist. The other was seriously shattered. The launch immediately headed for Tauranga. and arrived three hours .later, when the injured man was removed tc- the hospital. His condition is serious.
