DUEL THREAT
HUNGARIAN SENSATION. (Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.) BUDAPEST. June 7. The Premier, General Gombos, was challenged last week to a duel by the Opposition Deputy, Dr. Eckhart, fol- * lowing the alleged revelation that General Gombos had provided information which was the subject of a previous quarrel between Dr. Eckhart and Count Bethlen. Subsequently, General Gombos and Dr. Eckhart settled their quarrel with out a duel, but this only precipitated another duel and threatens a third. Dr. Eckhart to-day fought, with light cavalry sabres, the Government Deputy, M. Szalay, and each had been wounded ten times when they desisted from sheer exhaustion. General Gombos earlier appeased Dr. Eckhart by saying that Count Bethlen misquoted him. Count Bethlen has now sent his seconds to General Gombos. (Received June 9, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON. June 8. 4 The “Daily Mail’s” Budapest correspondent says: Gombos. contrary to expectations, admitted a misunderstanding with Eckhardt and Bethlen 1 and accepted an explanation obviating a duel.
