RUGBY FOOTBALL

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. There were present at the weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the West Coast Rugby Union last evening, Messrs Guy (actingChairman), T. Mclntosh, F. Eggleton, F. W. Baillie, T. P. Ryan, W. Wil liams. J. Kyle, R. P. Kania, C. R. Rollinson, and the Secretary (Mr J. E. Joyce). It was decided to forward a. letter of appreciation to Mr K. Glover for hi s services as a referee. Air Eggleton said that he had received an offer of a medal from an anonymous donor for the most improved junior player during the season. It was decided to forward a letter of thanks, and to advise the junior selectors of the gift.

It was decided that: in future senior matches at Rugby Park should commence at 2.45 p.m., and lower grade matches at 1.15 p.m. F. Freitas was appointed captain, and W. McNeight vice-captain of the West Coast team to play Canterbury. Mr W. Williams was appointed manager of the West Coast team, Air T. P. Ryan local manager of the Canterbury team, Air J. Kyle local manager of the Inangahua team, and Air F. Eggleton manager of the Greymouth Colts team. The Inangahua and Greymouth Colts teams are to assemble at the Park Hotel at 12.30, and the West Coast team to play Canterbury at the Park Hotel at 1.45 p.m.

It was decided that the Canterbury team, which will arrive by the excursion from Christchurch on Sunday should be entertained on Sunday afternoon with a motor drive to the Bundi Tin Company’s dredge at Cameronsj

It was decided to entertain both the Canterbury and West Coast teams at dinner on Monday evening. It was decided that P. Pascoe, a Blaketown senior player, who was ordered off on Saturday, be placed on the caution list. A sub-committee. consisting of Alessrs Guy, Mclntosh, Kyle and the Secretary, was elected to meet a subcommittee from the Inangahua Sub Union to discuss matters in connection with matters pertaining to the Sub-Union. One re-admission to the code from Inangahua “was ordered to be forwarded to the New Zealand I’nion with a favourable recommendat ion The Greymouth Jockey Club wrote granting the use of Omoto racecourse for matches.

Canterbury Rugby Union wrote confirming September 7th as the date for the match West Coast v. Canterbury at Christchurch.

Blaketown Club applied for passes for l Afonday, Juno 3rd, for the visiting Granity team. The application was declined, the Union not being able Io see its way clear to alter its decision not to grant free passes. Permission was granted to Blaketown to distribute handbills re their match with Rovers. The Afunicipal Band wrote agreeing to play a programme of music 1 on June 3rd at Rugby Park.

Westland Sub-Union wrot n agreeing July 13th as the date for Dit'nvn Shield challenge at Greymouth; also supplying the name of Air J. I). AleCleary as a referee for submission to Canterbury for the match on June 3rd. Celtic Club was granted permission to travel to Kotoku on Sunday. Technical School were granted two footballs for their junior teams. W. Naisbctt was granted a Transfer from United juniors to Cobden Club.

It -was decided to forward two referees’ names to the New Zealand Union for consideration for inter-pro-vincial matches.

It was decided to ask clubs to see that each team is provided with its own ball. It was decided to draw the attention of the local broadcasting authorities to the fact that the arrangement originally entered into with the Union was to broadcast matches from Rugby Park, and to intimate that permission to broadcast other matches was required to be obtained. Member Resigns FROM CANTERBURY UNION. CITRISTCHURCHi, May 28. Following on 'the suspension of a Sydenham C’.ub player by the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union one of the members of the committee, Air W. A. Brititenj, who is the President of the Sydenham Club, tendered his resignation from the committee. After declaring that he was done with the Canterbury Rugby Union, and done with football, Mr Briitten walked out of the meeting. The player suspended was I.
