BADMINTON

ST. JOHN’S CLUB. At the annual meeting of St. John’s Badminton Club, Mr C. Gunn presided over a large attendance a»nd expressed pleasure at seeing so many members present. He thanked those of the dub who held office for 'the past year and made special mention of the Captain, Mr. V. St even Sj. who had taken a keen interest in the club’s activities and was responsible for the improvement of play amongst members. The annual report, presented by the Secretary was read as follows:—“The roll number for the year totalled 30 and we are pleased to relate that all subscriptions’ were collected. The year started with a credit balance of 5s lid and after expenses were paid including the purchase of two new rackets for the dub, a credit balance of 18s 6d is sliowiij, which is quite satisfactory. During the year a challenge match was played with the Hokitika, Club and way Avon by Hokitika, but the return match resulted in a win for our Club by 9to 3. It was noticed during the year that the play of our members greatly improved over the previous year’s standard and some very credible. matches Avere played. The ladder matches were- keenly contested shoAving that members are taking an interest ini the sport. A friendly match was also pJayed with the Greymouth Indoor Sports Club, but owing to their being somewhat short of members,. members from each dub combined and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The committee desire to thank the Club Captain for his assistance to the Club during the year and also the ladies’ committee avlio helped considerably with the social arrangements. The Club’s equipment is in good order and Avith attention, should last for some time to comp.

The election of officers for the on piling year resulted ns follows:—Patron, Mr D. Tennent; President, Rev. 11. R. Fell; Mr C. Gunn; Secretary, Mr J. P. ’ Forbes; Treasurer, Mr L. F. Anderson; Auditor. Miss C. Brown; Cilub Captain, Mr V. Stevens; Executive Committee: Messrs E. Hay, C. Gunn. L. Anderson and J. P. Forbes; Mesdames -O. McLean and J. Forbes; Misses C. Tennent and G. Grant- Selection Committee, Messrs V. Stevens (Captain), L. Anderson and J. Forbes.

Subscriptions wore fixed at the pame as the previous years 7s 6d (if paid before the end of June ss). Several new members wore elected.
