THE NEW NAZIS
FORBES AND COATES. AND THE DECOY DUCK. Tn political circles it is rumoured that the differences of opinion between the Forbes-Coates Party and the new political organisation for which Air. A. L. Davy, late Reform-cuni-United-cnm-Coalit ion Government organiser, is now working, have been patched up, and henceforth their relationships will be Hiose of friendly understand ing (writes T. T. in the “Worker”).
The. denunciations of the Coalition Government by Air. Davy and the replies to Mr. Davy by the Government press are now to be taken as manoeuvres designed to give an appearance of reality to a sham fight.
The purpose of the sham fight is to deflect votes from the Labour Party, so that the Government may “fluke” hack to the Treasury benches. At the elections the Democratic Party will pursue a course calculated to take from the Labour Party the votes of persons who supported the Government in 1931, hut who far various reasons are now dissatisfied with its performance and likely to vote Labour as a protest if there is no other alternative. Tn other words, the Democratic Party will play the part of decoy duck for the Government. Air. A. E. Davy himself supplies the evidence in support of this. Tn a. statement published in the press on Thursday last. Commenting on the latest move to fuse a little more closely the Forbes and Coates factions within the Coalition—as if they could be any closer than they have been the past four years? Mr. Davy has something to I say about the alignment of parties. Tn this, it is to be noted, he alludes to the Forbes-Coates Party as lhe “National Socialist Party.” He savs:—
“The political field is now perfectly clear. We have on one side the Government, or the new National Socialist Party, and the Socialist Labour Party. Ou the other is the Democrat Party. AVere it not for the advent of the Democrat Party, as sure as night day. the Socialist Labour Party would defeat the National Socialists. The only difference between these two part ies is that the latter has put into actual practice the ‘objective’ of the former, the ‘socialisation of the means of product inn, distribution and exchange. ’ ’ 'Fhe •words put in parenthesis indi cate the real object of the Democratic Pftity. (Tt is out to save the Government). For the rest, Air. Davy’s denunciations are a camouflage to mis lead some of the electors who have now decided to support Labour.
