(Our Own Correspondent.) Mr 13. Macdonald, schoolmaster, is on a brief visit to 'Christchurch. Miss Joyce Denia is on a visit to Ross. Miss Madge Robertson, of Westport, is on a visit here. Master Eddie Kirby, of St. Patrick’s College, Silvers!ream, is home on holidays. Miss May Fairhall, of Ross, who had been oh a visit here for t«he weekend, has returned home. The first Rugby fixture of the Southern SubJJnion took place here lon Sunday between the local Team and Okarito. The home team proved the winners by 'the large margin of 37 to nil. Quite a number of local sports paid a visit tn Weheka. on Saturday last to be present at the sports meeting in that township. Mrs G. Diedrich and her son Garrett, who have been on an extended visit to Auckland, have returned. Mr F. Haddock, /who is at present a patient at‘ the Westland Hospital, is making slow progress towards recovery. Mr J. Phillips, of John Burns and Coy., Greymouth, is at present on a business visit here. Mr Fred Black, of Hamilton, is paying a brief visit to South Westland. t Master Dave Berry, of Christchurch, is on a visit .to his parents here. Mrs St. George paid a. visit’ to Hokitika on Saturday. The annual show took place here in glorious weather on Wednesday last. With the show and the elections on the same day, quite an increase nf people visited the Public Hall. The County election wa s enerj getically contested in the Southern Riding, but it was no surprise that Mr N. Brown, a now candidate, nearly topped the poll, he having been supported bv the Farmers’ Union both here and in Wataroa. district. Thunsuccessful candidates wore Messrs Searle and Kirby, the former having previously been a member of the Council for Twelve years. Tie took the result in a philosophical spirit.
