HOKITIKA NOTES
(Our Own. Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, May 15. There is considerable interest locally in next Saturday’s rep. rugby football match, Westland versus Grey, which should ait tract a good attendance. The teams should be evenly matched. The local combination are getting some practice before the game. Great interest is being manifested in this year’s Winter Show at Kokatahi on the 28th and 29 , th inst. Entries close on Monday. Visitors from all pants are assured of a good day's outing.

Six timber license applications were by Omoto Sawmilling Company, area Block .1, Cobden; H. Malloy, area in Section 2755, Block 3, Brunner; I). Spencer, renewal, area in Section 2756, Block 3, Brunner; F. Moore, 28 acres, Blocks 7 and 11, Maw- | hernnui; W. Dalzell, art a in Block 2, Brunner; M. K. Molloy, 20 acres, in Block 3. Brunner; Nelson Creek Sawmill Ltd., applied for all red and white pine on Section 2947 and 1975, Blocks IX and XIII, Ahaura; also ißes'erve 1048,. Blk. 13, Ahaura. Board’s resolution of 17th April was rescinded. J. M. Quinney was refused 80 acres on top side of junction of Hurd Creek and Taipo River. The following basketball matches are set down for Saturday at the Hokitika school grounds; B grade: 2.30 p.m.. Ros's v. St. Mary's B; School C v. Koiterangi 3.15 p.m., Kioiterangi v. Ross. At the competitions demonstration last night ‘the following gave items; Recitations. Misses V. Ross Z. Peters, 11. Breeze, K. Tibbles, N. MeKane, J. McDonald, A. Campbell, G. Wallwork and M. McDonnell; Mw Unwin and Mr S. Black. Dances were given by Misses V. Heenan, J. Ward f A. Andrews, J. Heenan, A. Ashley, M. Sinnott, R. Gifkins,’ M. Coll, N. Ilanrie and V. Goodall. Songs were given by Misses C. Knowles?,, K. Smith, P. Guthberlet. M. Wilson, M. Robertson, S. Dowell, P. Lewis, D. Stephens; Masters W. McMillian and Jim Breeze and the Convent Choir (2). Other musical items were by the Convent Choir; Misses L. Boustridge, A. Ross, C Knowles', N. Ila'.'riej S. Anderson and M. McDonnell . The annual meeting of the Westland County Council will be held on Wednesday next for the election of Chairman for the ensuing term. The weather has been dull to-day, but the temperature was not so low as previously.
