STIPENDIARY STEWARD’S APPEAL.

■WELLINGTON, May 10. Wellington District Committee today considered the appeal of the Stipendiary Steward in the case of W. J. Broughton at Pahiatua on April 10th, when the Judicial Committee of Pahiatua Club dismissed a charge of careless riding in the Juvenile Hand:cap. The District Committee found Broughton guilty of careless riding, and decided to suspend his license for one month from May 10th. Trotting Notes AMONG THE PACERS. (By the Delver.) Successful but Unlucky. Although the Methven meeting last Monday was a success, the club was most unfortunate that rain in Christchurch in the morning prevented hundreds of partons from journeying to the provincial meeting in the belief that the gathering would be again postponed. However, although the rain held off during the afternoon, conditions were very unpleasant and the club is fortunate that the shrinkage of £423 in the tote figures was not greatHad To Do It.

Considering the very wet weathe. prevailing during the week, the track at Meth ven was in real good order, and most of the horses racing had to improve on their handicap times to be in the money. With one exception the punters were on the mark, first and second favourites winning the majority of events.

Mixing it Well. J. S. Shaw had a real harvest in both branches of races during the Easter circuit on the Coast. As well as training the winner of the big handicap at the Westland Racing Club’s meeting, he also trained and drove Beverlev King, winner of the Balmoral Trot. There is nothing like mixing it when the opportunities occur and small fish are sweet.

Had Enough. The good looking Gamble was a very tired horse at the finish of the President’s Handicap at Methven. At one stage, the colt looked a comfortable winner, but Dollie Derby worried him out of it and the chestnut stopped to nothing in the last hundred yards. On top of the ground the placings would probably have been different. War Buoy’s Half Sister.

I It is interesting to note that War Buoy and Dollie Derby are half brother and sister, being from Little Kew;pie, owned by Mr. J. Manger. The former has only met one defeat, in the whole of his racing so far, and Dollie Derby’s performance on Monday points ‘to her collecting further stakes in I tighter classes before the season ends. Mr. C. McTigue holds the mare on lease from her breeder.

Bright Prospects. C. Dunleavey has a prospect vie champion in his stable in Iraq. The Wrack gelding was responsible for a meritorious performance in winning the Craiglea Handicap, and as he can both sprint and stay and is as much at home in saddle as harness, he is easy to place. The best has not yet been seen of this one, and his Dunedin owner, Mr. J. Richardson, has already refused several tempting offers to sell.
