GOLD MINING

BIERWIRTH’S GOLD REEFS, LTD. The Managing-Director of Bierwirth's Gold Reefs Limited. Mr W. O. Bierwirth, reports on the prospecting operations carried out by the Greenland Syndicate since its inception: “At. the latter end of 1929? a prospecting license covering 100 acres, together with one water, right and. machine site, was marked out and held in trust for the Greenland Syndicate. This area was practically tested', and the following year the second prospecting license was taken up together with further water rights and these areas have been practically and thoroughly tested, and finally converted into special claims. 1 Residential sites have been marked out and granted for the purpose of suitable accommodation for the workmen and the staff. Durjng this period, over 4,000 assays, both fire and chemical, have been carried out to ascerFain the values of the walls and lodes covering the auriferous channels of these

areas. Over the same period, 2315 tons of orc weiie treated by the battery for an approximate yield of 1663 ounces, at an approximate average of £4 7s 6(1 per ton. This tonnage includes over 700 tons used for analysis, which would reduce the value of the quartz considerably. It must be remembered that the Syndicate started off with less than £lOOO of capital, and has prospected and developed these areas and converted them into special claims, on its own support. The Syndicate has handed over to the Company now known as Bierwirth’s Gold Reefs Limited, property easily worth one hundred thousand pounds. As soon as reading suitable for the transport of heavy machinery has been completed, it is the intention of the management to instal immediately one counter-balanc-ed ball-mill and crusher, and to add to the plan until mills are installed to a capacity of 250 to .300 tons per day. Operations during the month of April, 1935. have been carried out as follows: 39 tons of ore have been treated for a yield of S2 ounces 5 dwts 12 grs of retorted gold.
