The retirement is announced of Mr D. Ar do) I, o'f’the Internal Affairs Department. atTer 40 years’ service. For several years he had been charge of the entertainment of distinguished visitors.
Mr J. Callan was sworn in as Judge of the Supreme Court Bench, by the Chief Justice, at Wellington. Tt is understood that the duties of Mr Justice Callan, tn the immediate fu ture, will be in Wellington.
Mr G. B. Mclnroe has been admitted to the Reefton Hospital, suffering from a fracture of the right leg, as the result of a fall at the Blackwater Slhicing Company’s claim at Hukarere.
The King has approved the appointment of Rear-Admiral rottenliam to be Commander of tho South African Station in succession to Vice-Admiral Sir K. G. R. Evans. !a-on/ “Evans of tho Broke’’ and as a member ol Scott's Antarctic Expedition which lie commanded after Scott’s death in 1917.
Ms C. E. Palmer, of the Meteorologicar Bureau, Wellington, has been appointed Lecturer of Zoology at A ic toria University College. Mr Palmer, who is a son of Mr and Mrs PalmerCobden, and a past pupil of the Greymouth Technical College, takes up bis new position at the commencement of the second term.
Mr A. K. Smith, who leaves on Monday on transfer to the Cheviot branch of Dalgety and Coy., was fa ravelled by members of the Greymouth. Lenuis Club, and presented with a solid leather suitcase. The presentation iwas made by Dr. H. S. Ray, who referred to the good work done by Mr Smith for the Club and wished him success in the future. Mr Smith suitably replied.
Lord and Lady Galway yesterday arrived back at Wellington from the South Island. They attend the ceremony at Parliament* Buildings on Monday. In the evening, they hold a reception and presentation of honours and insignia. There will be a ball on Wednesday, and a children’s party on the following Saturday. Their Excellencies attend a special Jubilee service at St. Paul’s pro-cathedral on Sunday, May 12.—Press Assn.
